To Do Life: a Lit RPG

Turn your real goals into a hero's journey. Finish real tasks to level your skills and attributes, take down bosses you set for yourself, climb the gem ranks, and kit out a pixel hero that is genuinely your own.

Local-first and encrypted on your device, so your goals stay yours.

The core loop

Do the task. Level up your life.

It's a goals app first and an RPG second. Real progress in your life drives every bit of progress in the game.

1Complete a taskTick off a real-life goal under a skill.
2Level a skillEach task raises that skill's level.
3Raise an attributeSkills feed their parent attribute.
4Climb gem ranksMax attributes to ascend and unlock gear.

The gem ladder

From Stone to Diamond, and beyond

Max two attributes to ascend to the next gem band. Each band asks a little more of you, so later ranks mean real, long-term commitment.

Stone Quartz Garnet Carnelian Opal Ruby Diamond ? ? ?

A secret band is said to lie beyond Diamond. Ascending sheds your completed tasks (the "metamorphosis"), but your skills and earned gear carry forward.

The Book of Metamorphosis

Before you ascend, the book spells out the trade. Completed tasks are shed in the change. Skills and earned gear carry forward. The next band asks more of you, and you may add a fourth attribute if you want the breadth more than the speed.

Unlock & equip

Gear that marks how far you've come

Progress unlocks items, from an Iron Sword after two tasks to Battle Gauntlets that take eighteen. The hero is built from modular pixel parts, so equipping a sword swaps in a forearm that actually grips it, and boots replace the lower legs rather than sitting on top of them.

  • Earn as you go Iron Sword, Wolf-Face Shield, Focus Staff, Endurance Cape & more.
  • Eight equip slots Head, Body, Weapon, Shield, Arms, Feet, Accessory, Cosmetic.
  • Named sets Sword, shield and helm together read as the warrior set. Staff, helm and pendant read as the scholar.

Boss fights

Name the thing you have been avoiding. Then kill it.

A boss is a real milestone you write down yourself: the certification, the half marathon, the room you keep not painting. Pick how big it is, and it turns up on your hero screen with a health bar and a bounty on its head.

Minion Boss health

A week's worth of something. The one you summon to see how this works.

Small bounty
Champion Boss health

A real project with a real deadline. Enough health that you feel each hit land.

Better bounty
Raid Boss Boss health

The big one. Months of work, and gold worth the grind when it finally drops.

Best bounty

Every task you finish takes health off the boss you have active. Beat it and the bounty is yours, and the kill goes up in the Hall of Victory where you can look at it on the days you need to.

Day to day

Today's missions

The hero screen opens on what you actually have to do today. Add a task in one line, tick it off, watch the streak count climb on the ones you keep coming back to.

One line to add

A text field and a plus button at the top of the list. No forms, no categories to pick before you are allowed to write something down.

Streaks that count

Repeat a daily and it carries a streak. The number is small and quiet, and it is remarkably hard to let go once it gets going.

Gold and Orbs

Gold comes off bosses and buys from the shop. Orbs drop when skills level, and one Orb buys a custom skill of your own under any attribute.

Built in the Skarpa palette

Parchment, forest, moss, ember and bronze, the same colours as the Feral deck, on both iOS and Android.
